Gace I see why, in your books, you have always maintained that the modern rise of rationality, which has usually spent so much time trashing religion, is actually in itself a very spiritual movement. Not the whole picture, but a crucially important segment. Treya showed me that you can be healed, and therefore free, regardless of whether you are disease-free or not.

Lists with This Book. I finally picked it up ailber year, and as fate would have it, my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer while I was reading it. What struck me most was the process through which Treya came to live detached and yet deeply involved in life. A profoundly moving love story illuminating the life lessons learned during Treya’s 5-year engagement with cancer.
Very interesting class, and this book stood out head and shoulders for me from the otherwise excellent course reading list as the one that really captivated my attention and imagination.
It’s their honesty which bumped me up to living more passionately.

A good example of this is voodoo. Summary In the fall ofTreya Killam was about to be married to Ken Wilber, a prominent theorist in the field of transpersonal psychology, when she was diagnosed with a particularly virulent form of breast cancer. Looks like Levenson would agree with that.

And this is really something to read. Many of them went on to read other Ken Wilber books, as I did.
In infantile fusion, there are not two things to begin with, just a global in differentiation. A few months later they were married. Sin, in other words, is the self-contraction, the separate-self sense, the ego. My friend Hiromi – to whom I lent this book when her mother was dying of cancer told me she could only read a few pages at a time without putting it down because the shock of recognition and empathy was too great, yet she could not help but read it from cover to cover.
I ended up writing my final paper for the course based primarily on this book and how it altered my life. It took me a long time — 3 years, actually — to get to this book. I loved culture, she loved nature. Against the backdrop of marriage and dealing with cancer, the real drama in the story is how both Terry and Ken learn to relate to God.

Yes sometimes the philosophising can be a bit much, and you would need to know something about Buddhism wilher get some of wiber going on, but still it’s an interesting variation on the theme.

The story of their love aand the continual deepening of Treya’s spirit, much of it told in her own words, is very beautiful. My awareness is not open, relaxed, and God-centered, it is closed, contracted, and self-centered. It is vulnerable and real. Mar 15, Mary Karpel-Jergic rated it it was amazing Kken Also mixed with the brutal realism of cancer. It was a bit of a drag in a few places but, overall, I am very glad that I read it. This isn’t a bad book but it’s not great. The best and most interesting parts of the book were those that had to do with Treya.
